Jesus from the walking dead said he was gay

The character of Paul “Jesus” Monroe in Robert Kirkman‘s The Walking Dead comics has been a fan-favorite since he burst into the pages and managed to take down Michonne and Abraham with ease. When introduced on the AMC series as Paul “Jesus” Rovia, the live-action adaptation embarrassed Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes with his ninja-like abilities.

In addition to his impressive fighting skills and level-headed leaders in the comics, there is another characteristic many fans are hoping to see adapted to television: Jesus’ sexuality.

In the most recent issue of The Walking Dead comics, Kirkman addressed the matter in the Letter Hacks section.

“If I was coy before…” Kirkman started, “I’ll be less so now, Jesus is gay on the TV show, as well.”

Speaking to Tom Payne ahead of this Sunday’s new episode of The Walking Dead, ComicBook.com asked the actor if he can confirm that Jesus will be gay in the live action adaptation, remaining true to the comic book counterpart, and the actor did just that.

“Yeah, [he] will be,” Payne said. “I can’t tell you how that might be addressed

'The Walking Dead' Just Confirmed That Jesus Is Gay

Ever since Tom Payne made his The Walking Dead debut a year ago as fan-favorite Jesus, speculation has brewed over how much of his persona from the comic books would be retained – and specifically, whether his sexuality would remain the same. Payne said last year that he saw no reason why his on-screen Jesus wouldn't be gay, as he is in the comics, and in tonight's episode "The Other Side," he officially became the show's third major gay nature.

Between the truth that Jesus is an elusive and taciturn guy to begin with, and the fact that these characters are living in apprehension of a fascist dictator during a zombie apocalypse, it's no surprise that it took a while for the subject to approach up. But Jesus knows who he is – he's one of the more self-possessed characters in the cast – and there is no dramatic "coming out" moment here, during a moment of bonding between Jesus and Maggie.

During the equal conversation, we absorb Jesus grew up in a collective home, and has never felt fancy he belonged anywhere until now. He's always had a hard time getting close to anyone, he says, "neighbors, friends, boyfriend

Is The Walking Dead's Jesus Gay? Here's What Thomas Payne Says

Mild spoilers for those who aren't current on The Walking Dead's storyline.

When Thomas Payne's Jesus first appeared in the live-action Walking Dead universe, audiences were immediately invested in watching him outmaneuver Rick and Daryl, and seeing how he functioned within the Hilltop Colony. But because we are all human, the conversation has now turned to sexuality, and the Internet was recently taken by storm by comments the actor made about Jesus potentially being gay. Perhaps things were taken slightly out of context, though, as Payne said this when asked about having insinuated Jesus' homosexuality:

Yeah, he's... a possibility. I just checked my messages this morning and everyone's like, 'Tom Payne Confirms...' but I didn't endorse. I just said in the comic books he is, and there is no reason why he wouldn't be in the show.

It's so not enjoy the Internet to take anything too far, right? Regardless of what people think he meant, though, the essential part is what will actually be happening on the show, and that remains to be seen by viewers. It is entirely possible, though, that there is a momen
jesus from the walking dead said he was gay

When The Walking Dead revealed that Paul Monroe, the fan-favorite character nicknamed “Jesus” for his long hair and beard, was same-sex attracted, many fans wondered how long it would be before a religious person or group registered their offense. We even recently speculated that AMC might be reluctant to depict a character named Jesus on TV, for fear of alienating potential viewers if the character got up to anything that might offend Christians. It didn’t obtain long: in this week’s “Letter Hacks” column, Kirkman received two very unlike letters from fans regarding Jesus’s sexuality. One was from a Christian reader concerned that making Jesus gay was a subtle “jab” at people of faith, and one was from a reader grateful for the thoughtful depiction of Jesus as just another character, doing his thing, up until the moment that his sexuality came up somewhat organically.

During a conversation with Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Jesus (Tom Payne) opens up just a tiny bit about his life pre-apocalypse, discussing his struggle to rest in one place... and "hang on to boyfriends."

It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it benign of moment, but for Payne and TWD boss Robert Kirkman, it couldn't have been more important.

"I love how that was handled in the script and in the episode. I knew that it was never going to be a huge deal," Payne told ET's Leanne Aguilera ahead of the show's panel at PaleyFest on Friday. "Listen, it's the end of the world. Do you really think we're going to be worried about things like that?"

"I'm really cheerful about it, actually," he continued. "I knew before we filmed it, because he is [gay
