NBC's 'The Voice' gives voice to gay singers
NEW YORK - NBC's hit exhibit "The Voice" is giving a voice to same-sex attracted singers.
The singing competition wraps its first season this week with four contestants battling for the championship. Two of those finalists are gay.
Other TV talent shows such as "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent" have featured lgbtq+ performers but not in an open way. For example, Adam Lambert, who won second place on "American Idol" in 2009, didn't address his sexuality until after the challenge ended. He's had victory as an openly queer performer, earning a Grammy nomination, a gold-selling CD and a pair of Top 40 hits.
But the presence of gay singers on "The Voice" is fresh for prime-time TV, and the singers are making a splash at a time when Novel York State has legalized gay marriage.
"It couldn't acquire come at a improve time, could it?" said Beverly McClellan, a 41-year-old gravelly voiced singer from Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., whose partner has appeared backstage on the show with her.

UK Singer Calum Scott Says Friends Abandoned Him After He Came Out As Gay
Britain’s Got Talent celebrity Calum Scott, whose debut album Only Human punch number 4 on the UK Album Chart in 2018, has spoken out about how his friends “abandoned him,” after he came out to them.
Their reaction to his revelation left the singer struggling for years to accept his sexuality. Scott, who recently performed at the 62nd TV Week Logie Awards, has also spoken about how he has become a stronger man since he came out.
In an interview with Attitude, Scott said, “That for me made me suppress my sexuality for most of my teens, most of my twenties. It was a traumatic event. I’d seen what me being honest had done and how it had crushed me that I was like, adv, for me, now I’m never going to reveal anybody else because then I’m going to forget more people.”
‘I Came Out To My Mum’
The English singer and songwriter, who rose to fame after competing on the ninth season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2015 where he placed sixth, told Metro that while his friends didn’t accept him, his parents “were pretty fantastic with my coming out.”
“I wrote a song called No M Monday night during Nighttime 5 of "The Voice" Season 15, gay couple OneUp took on "Could It Be I’m Falling in Love" by The Spinners and caused three coaches to change their chairs around: Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. After a quick deliberation, the duo chose to go with Kelly as their coach. Since a duo has never won "The Voice" before, OneUp has their work cut out for them, but with Kelly by their side anything is still doable. Watch NBC's "The Voice" blind audition video above and read the coaches' comments below. "Can I say something?" Kelly asked as she welled up with tears. "It's gonna sound super cheesy and I'm gonna try not to cry because I'm that girl. But in a moment in this region when it is so divisive, this is such a beautiful thing. It is proof that in this region, love is limitless. It can arise anywhere with anyone. It's the most beautiful thing that's happened to me this season. It's so great. I love it. I mean, your voices are undeniable. Obviously you both sound ridiculous." Jennifer joined On Tyler Robinson provided some soulful singing—and some unintended controversy—to the hit NBC reality-competition show The Voice. An out male lover Mormon, Robinson was eliminated during one of the show’s “battle rounds” when mentor Blake Shelton picked Patrick Thomas over Robinson—a verdict some feel was steeped in homophobia (especially given other recent anti-gay incidents allegedly involving the country superstar), as some critics felt Robinson clearly outclassed Thomas. As the show winds down, Robinson talked with Windy City Times about the exhibit, Shelton and his surprise dream duet partners. Windy City Times: First, I’d fancy to talk with you about the fact that you’re a gay Mormon. How difficult is it to reach out in that particular religion? Tyler Robinson: It’s different in every situation. I was lucky enough to have a mom who loves me even if I was a serial killer. She is one who loves unconditionally. When I came out to her, it was sort of an accident. We were sitting and talking as a family, and one thing led to another. My mom actually asked, “You like boys, don’t you?” I said, “Well, yeah.” That’s
