Jamboree 2025 is an alcohol-free event.

Jamboree is a superb , inexpensive vacation favor you've never experienced before!  Each year, 200 2SLGBTQIA+ adults (19+) from the Out & Out club rent a summer camp in the Haliburton area (3 hours northeast of Toronto).  You’ll stay in joint cabins in the woods, overlooking a private lake, and spend your days doing many of the fun things you did as a kid at camp: swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, playing volleyball, making crafts, hosting parties, putting on a talent show – or just relaxing on the dock.  Jamboree is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run event.  A single price includes your accommodations, activities, meals, and snacks.

The People

Everyone across the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum is welcome.  Typically, about one third of the people attending identify as female, just over half identify as male, and many campers identify as trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, or genderqueer.

Despite the overriding positive memories, when I reflect on that summer, I continue troubled by the gender divisions and enforced heteronormativity I observed daily at camp. Almost everything at camp was divided by gender binary, from meal times to evening activities. I saw teenagers mocked and excluded for displaying flamboyant habit amidst an underlying enforcement of what boys and girls should do and be like. Now, a generation on, I’m not confident that we own arrived at a place where queer teenagers can be completely comfortable in camp environments. But there are sure signs of hope.

Anyone who has lived the camp experience, be it over 10 years as a camper, or 10 weeks as a counselor, knows how particular it is, and how it stays with you forever. Whether it’s the first place you sense independent, learn a technique that shapes your purpose o
