Beingqueeris a radically alternative experience for every individual.

Everyone's ways of navigating the world are shaped by a number of intersecting identities -- particularly one's ethnic background. In a new video from Flama/Univision, contributor Gabe Gonzalez deconstructs the nuances of identifying as both gay and Latino and the way this shapes his life in American culture.

The video is decidedly satirical, and tackles a number of issues about exotification among gender non-conforming men, as successfully as sexual health in the Latino community. According to Gonzalez, these are issues that Latino gay men in America are confronted with quite frequently.

"I want to spark honest conversation," Gonzalez told The Huffington Post. "In particular, I want people to talk about sex and gender performance in the Latino community because we have a hard time addressing these topics. Growing up, most of my friends knew I was homosexual, but I faced these linguistic and cultural barriers fitting in at educational facility. At home I spoke Spanish comfortably, but worried about 'butching it up' and acting enjoy a 'boy' so my parents wouldn’t think I was gay. I always felt like I was hiding a part of myself no matter whe

'There is a place for you in this world': Growing up as a gay Latino

Coming out to your family about one’s sexual orientation can oftentimes be challenging.

“I came out to my mom when I was 10,” Giovanni Ayala Martinez said. “We had this neighbor and I used to always reflect of holding his hand and giving him a kiss on the cheek when I was a kid. But as a little kid, it's enjoy, that's the most sexual thing, you know? It's like in the instinct of sexuality, kisses on the cheek and holding hands.”

And it can be no less difficult when coming out in a Latino household.

“Latin people are loud and proud, and that's how I was raised,” Giovanni said. “So that's how I carried myself coming out as a queer person. I'm blaring and proud. I still am. I'll wave the Puerto Rican flag right next to the Lgbtq+ fest flag. But that's really where, like, those arguments and the dissonance and kind of like almost like there was a schism in our association between like 15 and 18.”

Raised in a petty town, Giovanni had felt love he had always stood out. He said he felt isolation for not only being a minority within his community, but also being gay.

“Growing up in a little town wh

Top 10 Queer Latin Club Tracks

1. Te Enterraré el Tacón - Zemmoa

This was Zemmoa’s very first smash, and my very favourite. Over the years her music has been consistently loyal to the synthpop sounds of the eighties, and this track is a glorious throwback to the gothic camp of Alaska & Dinarama. Bringing high drama and morbid power play, she repeats: “I’ll bury your heel and remove your heart/and with your heartbeat I’ll start to dance/because the [digital] bit of your love is another fresh song”.

2. Deliberate of U - AB Soto

While AB Soto is known for his unapologetically kitsch and political party anthems like “Latinos in the House” and “Cha Cha Bitch”, this road is pretty underrated. What I love about this one is how classy, focused and understated it is. The beat is both simple and hefty, crude but somehow refined. It’s the time of the night when the loud party queens own moved on, and the weird gays are left to vibe. It’s a tune for poor lighting and making out.

3. Ella Sabe - MULA

It’s difficult to pick just one MULA road to share, since they are all pretty much perfect. An all-female, gender non-conforming, Dominican, futurist, EDM powerhouse, lab
